Final reflection

     Blog... the time is finally here. We have made it to the end of the portfolio project. Wow what a ride it has been. This project taught me so many new things not just about aice media but also about myself. Before i started this project i had a pretty mixed schedule on a day to day and didnt really have to worry too much about making time for certain things but once i started this project it all changed. I figured out a new schedule and new ways to get my work done while also making sure i blog everyday about my portfolio project. Before i get right deep dive into this reflection lets start from the beginning.

    When i first started aice media I didnt really have any background knowledge of filming or anything about camera angles, how to make foley, and editing. But as the class went on we did many project revolving around filming, editing, and learning a lot about shots and angles. When the class was first introduced about the portfolio project i immediately got so stressed. it was super intimidating because all of the people who sit next to me in class have a lot of background knowledge on filming and editing. I felt as if this project was way beyond me and what i know, but once we started diving into the planning of this project i felt a little more at ease. Figuring out what plot i wanted to do i knew i wanted to do something i was familiar with and had a lot of knowledge on so i chose coming of age because ive always watched coming of age movies growing up. Story boarding really helped me with the filming process and what i wanted to do for each scene, when i was unsure of what was next after filming i just went back to my storyboard and reviewed what i had planned next for that scene. Honestly the editing part took me the longest because of how time consuming it was but i had the most fun with it because i felt as if i could be creative and use so many ideas i had in mind.

    The final part of this project that had me worried the most were the ccrs. This whole project stressed me out and i totally forgot after filming we needed to create our ccrs and need to come up with two ideas. For the first idea i did a podcast but i created my own podcast cover on canva and then recorded my audio on voice memo. Then the second idea i had was to answer most common google searches about the portfolio project. For that one i had to video myself and i made sure the background was plain and not too much going on as a distraction. Honestly i am very proud of my work and so excited to be done. I feel so accomplished and love looking back to see where i started and where i am now. I learned so much from this project and had so much fun learning new things i like, like editing i found out i had the most fun with and i wouldve never known that if i didnt do this project.

Post about post-production of CCRs

 Hey blog i have offically finished my ccrs and now i am editing and tweaking them. For the first ccr i decided to do a podcast and for the second one i am doing a google review. Honestly the ccrs are one of the harder parts of this project because i have to make sure everything looks right and come up with a good idea. I am so excited to finally come to an end with this project and am proud of my final work. 

    For my first ccr i made my podcast cover using canva. Like ive said in previous blogs i love canva and think its such an amazing app that can be used in so many different ways because i not only use canva in aice media i use it in student government. To create the speaking in the podcast i used the voice memos app and once i was finished i just inserted the voice memo to the picture. While i was editing i decided to use bensounds to find some background music in the back that would sound pretty low so it wasnt too distracting.

For my final ccr i decided to do a google review. I used a tripod to hold my phone up and record. I went onto canva and created a "google search" of the top searches about the portfolio project. While i was editing i used clips from my movie to include some examples of what i was talking about and also i mentioned some apps i used and decided to screen record videos of what some of the platforms i was using looked like. For example i used pictures like this and screen recorded how i utilized blogger during my project and showed all of my progress from the beginning of aice media.

Post about production of CCRs

     I am just starting to film my CCRs and for my ideas i am going to do a podcast and create my own cover art on canva and for my second idea i am going to be reading the most popular searched questions about the aice media questions and answering them with my opinion. For the first ccr since i did a podcast i went onto canva and decided to make a podcast cover and also use canva to create my "google search screen".

For my first ccr this is what my canva cover art looks like. I had fun designing it and i am going to use the voice memo app to create my audio behind the picture and im going to use bensounds to pick some background music to use in the background of me speaking. I have already made my script and i know what im going to say so im not too worried about it.

For my second ccr i have decided to create a video of me answering googles most asked questions about aice media and our project. I decided i am going to make a video but also make a canva background for the google questions and make my own. I was going to do a google peel video but my printer unfortunately decided not to work anymore so i couldnt do my orginal idea. I also already made my script so i know what im going to say in the video to help me prepare better. This is a picture of what my google cover art also looks like. 

I love canva and i have used it so much throughout the process of my project and it has even helped me edit small things i want in my project.

CCR 4 research

 Hey blog this is the final ccr i am researching about. This question to me was one of the questions i had a lot to work with on because i used many different types on technology like editing applications, iphones, computers, and even canva. Just in those topics i can go more in debth and talk about how i incorporated each of those items in my project.

    The first item i would talk about would be how i used canva to create my credit scene. I would show the template i used and how it first looked and how i eventually developed it through time and how i figured out which order of credits i wanted. The second thing i would mention would be the editing software i used and i would use some pictures like this for example to show how my editing process was going and what app i used to edit the video.

    I would also discuss that i used my phone instead of using a actual camera and why. It is very expensive to find a camera i could borrow for filming but instead i just used my phone and used a tripod which is a very good option since its affordable yet is good to use during production. Once i have finished my full editing which i just need to figure out what music i want to apply it is going to be much easier to answer some of these questions since i will have run into some problems and solutions i can talk about to help me develop more info on some topics.

CCR 3 research

 Hey blog, I have offically started my ccr research and have a lot of writing i need to do for both videos. I am going to be talking about what i have researched for the 3rd ccr question which is "How did your production skills develop throughout this production?". During group meetings i kind of broke each ccr question down and disscussed how the question could be answered.

    In class when we were first intorduced to the ccr and had a lesson about it my teacher suggested we answer this question last and switch question 3 and 4 around since it would flow better. In class during group meetings when we were discussing how to answer the questions we broke each question down and when asked how our production skills developed throughout this project many things popped into my head like my production skills on using different camera angles instead of analyzing it by watching a video i actually used what i have been watching and applied it to my project. Same thing goes for costume design, Using colors to describe a characher and how they are feeling for example using the color pink on the main character peyton to show her femininity.

I took some notes throughout the presentation in class. I think a big thing i would talk about if i could change something is to learn more about lighting or how to use a tripod because there were some issues on setting up the tripod in perfect position or even being adjusted.

Group meetings

     

    The group meeting table: 

     In class today we had group meetings and for the most part a big topic of the meeting was ideas we were going to share about the ccr. None of us really knew what we were gonna do for the ccr and didnt have any ideas so we all shared different ideas we thought would fun and creative. Before we started group meetings our teacher let us know the ccr needs to be creative and fun yet follows all of the rules on the rubric to get points. I took many notes during the meeting and kind of broke down some of the questions i need to answer in the ccr.

    When we started the groups and were assigned into our groups we first all moved the tables together and started just saying random ideas we have and think would be cool and creative. Some of the ideas that were put out in our groups were just fun and different because i dont want to do something thats overdone. I had the idea of doing a podcast which is overdone but i could make my own canva designed podcast cover as if you were listening to it from spotify or Apple Music. The second idea was to do "web questions" and make the questions based on ccr. The last 10 minutes of the group meetings i asked people in my group what they thought of the credit scene idea i had and everyone agreed that it would look good and i should do it. So i have decided i am going to use it.

post-production process

     Hey blog since i am done with filming i have offically moved onto editing and i am starting to edit my credits and pick what i want them to look like. For my credits i have decided to use a canva template of a texting screen like i showed in previous blogs. I thought this would be creative and something i havent seen anyone do in their openings before. 

     I have been picking and editing two of these canva templates to see which i want the most and which looks better. I have learned they are kind of hard to edit and for some reason the texts pop up kind of weird on the first template i used. I have been trying to tweak around and move some of the texts to be in a certain order when they pop up but i have yet to figure out how to do so.

For the second credit I have been working on, I have been tweaking around with it trying to figure out which i like best and i think i am going to use this one. The texts this one flow nicer compared to the other template i just have to edit the texts fonts so it looks simple and doesnt take too much attention away. I am going to edit pictures into the photo icons to make it look more similar to an actual texting background.

Post production process

     Now that my partner and i are done with the production part of filming we have now moved onto editing and coming up with a ccr idea. The production process was very stressful i am not going to lie. You need to be very patient and not rush while filming. I did not realize how long filming was going to take and how many shots we were going to to redo. These are just SOME shots we had to redo over and over again which i have learned is smart and i should always retake and redo as many shots as i want.

    I have to start editing this weekend but i am kind of scared and i have been thinking of a backup plan in case adobe is too hard for me so i am trying to find people i know and figure out which editing app they think is best and is not too hard since i dont want the editing to be the biggest stress of this project. In the end i think adobe should be okay and i will be able to learn. I have alson been trying to pick a font for my credits since that is going to be a part of my editing i need to incorporate and learn how to do.

    All in all i still have a long way to go but i think i am on the right track and ahead of where i should be in the filming and editing process even if my partner and i were a week delayed because of her being sick.

Editing softwares

     Hey blog since my partner and i have finished filming our opening we need to start the filming process asap. I dont think we are going to use imovie since i have learned it is one of the lower quality editing applications so i havde decided to use adobe premiere. We have used it in the past with some other projects but this time i am going to learn more about it so i am able to use it. I also am going to use it when editing my CCR.

    This is what the editing part looks like and it even gives you a tutorial. Since i am pretty new at editing i am going to watch some youtube videos to give me some lessons on editing and how i can get better at it. My opening doesnt involve too much heavy editing so i dont think the editing should be too hard i just have to make sure i find music i can use while editing that is copyright free.

Shooting process

     Hey blog my partner and i have offically started filming and it has been a long process of picking scenes, deleting, setting up the camera, and moving the tripod. We had many different scenes that all needed the tripod in it to make it look best and would capture the perfect angles. Shooting the footage in my opinion was one of the most important parts of the project because it could either make or break your opening and what the quality would look like.

    This is a picture of what the tripod looked like as we were filming and how it was set up in one of our scenes we may or may not use. We took so many different shots, we had to retake over and over again until we got the one we wanted. While filming we used our storyboard and script to go over which scenes we were going to use and how we envisioned them when planning.

We had to delete many of the already shot scenes since there were many we werent going to use. While we were filming we had to make sure our film went up to at least 2 minutes since that is the time it needed to be at so i added up some of the clips we are going to use to make sure it reaches the 2 minute mark.

Issues with filming

    Hello blog the time has officially come for filming, my partner and I have officially started our filming process after many delays and issues. At first we were planning a different script that had some scenes at school but on the day we needed to film at school we had a substitute... so change of plans, we decided to film everything at my house and change the script around a lot. We didn't plan on changing these things but we cannot waste anymore time especially because I know the editing process is going to be a little lengthy. After spending weeks and posting blogs about our location, our script, and our concept it was very disapointing and stressful to have to readjust everything, but we eventually overcame the issue and along the way faced some other small problems.

    First in class when our sub told us we could not film we immediately switched to plan b which was to film all of the scenes at my house. After we rewrote our script and planned our story board everything slowly started to come together and we figured out what our alternate plan was going to be. But as we were filming we realized some shots were going to be a lot harder then we thought. it took us many takes and many different angles of setting up the tripod to get the perfect shot over and over and over again. As we were filming we needed to be careful of what the area were were in was going to sound like on camera because we didnt want to hear any background noise from outside or any and we also didnt want it to be too echoey. 

These are all of the rough drafts we went through while filming. We had so many rough clips that needed to be redone over and over again. After many issues with filming location changing, script, and stress im glad the filming part is done and i offically get to start editing.

CCR research question 2

 I have started researching the second question of the CCR and how I can improve my video with some tips. In class I started taking notes and also watching the sample videos on what should be done and what shouldn't be. I have taken notes on how to answer the question correctly and in the correct way. The question for the second part of the car is "how does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text".

These are the notes that we were given to look through and as you can see in the next slide there is a video. In the video she started it as if someone sent her a letter asking the question, she added that to grab the viewers attention. While starting the video I should start with the topic of my target audience and how is my opening going to attract the correct target audience. All of my production choices are going to lead to grabbing my audiences attention. When discussing how I will make my film available to audiences I have to keep in mind that I am a amateur filmmaker and none of my films are going to be released somewhere like Hulu for example or Netflix I have to think small like maybe YouTube.

Looking through the example videos are really helpful I think the pros and cons lists of what to do and what not to do is extremely helpful while filming this.
