Comedy research
Comedy movies are one of the most popular movie genres to this day. Directors like Woody Allen have been creating many comedy movies for all ages for many years. Comedy films are constantly being made again and again. Usually comedy movies are filmed to relate its viewers. Famous directors like Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, and Paul Feig have created many comedy movies most people should be familiar with. They hire actors viewers are familiar with so people watching can get a comfortable feeling that they are familiar with the actor.
Normally the humor comes from misunderstandings, funny out of the ordinary situations, and exaggerations of events in a scene. Character types are always the typical unorganized, sage loser, and eccentric funny type of character. Whenever there is conflict it usually revolves around a real life situation that can happen but it will always be over dramatized to be made funny in social situations or personal dilemmas, but whenever the conflict is solved there is a sense of warm light-hearted and positive humor. The audience is always left with a sense of joy at the end of the movie.
Comedies are always shot with bright colors and lighting to increase the comedic feeling with funny punchlines, fast paced editing, and sound effects. Exaggerated reactions and sound effects add onto the spontaneous feel of a comedy. When trailers are shot they usually only add the funny parts of the movie that are highlighted to be capturing for viewers. Normally covers for comedy movies are bright and colorful while capturing its playful and light-hearted tone. Comedies are typically targeted for families, young adults, or even older audiences. There is no specific age for comedies they normally want to just connect to viewers on a personal level so they can get a good laugh but be drawn in by the movie being relatable.
A good example of a comedy movie that captures the comedic effect would be the movie Bridesmaids. The movie is a super funny popular movie that many viewers may find relatable. The movie is based off an early mid twenty year olds life Annie (Kristen Wiig) who seems to be a mess, but her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) is getting married. Annie obviously takes the roll as her maid of honor but everything goes wrong. Annie is super insecure about Lillians close friend Helen who is also a bridesmaid. There are super funny scenes targeted for adults as well as young adults. Each character in the movie embodies a comedic character from the put together girl to the stressed out mess Annie is. There are quick cuts, reaction shots, and even awkward silent moments that build the comedic feeling when watching. As well for good comedic timing.
