music marketing #1

For the planning process we first started by creating dates for when we need to finish each assignment by since there is a lot to complete within this project. We picked who would be doing the assignment so we could get more things done at a time. Every time we would finish an assignment we would send it in our group chat to make sure whoever was going to submit something, would do it correctly and so we could cross it off the list as done. For the storyboard we started drawing many ideas so we could have options on what we wanted to film or if we wanted to add or get rid of clips. On the brainstorm questions we looked in our notes to figure out some distribution ways to give us a little help, but also ideas for our presentation and also give information that will be useful. We planned the music video around our choice of song so we could have an idea of what type of music video we wanted to do.

Genre Research Blog Activity

 Comedy research

Comedy movies are one of the most popular movie genres to this day. Directors like Woody Allen have been creating many comedy movies for all ages for many years. Comedy films are constantly being made again and again. Usually comedy movies are filmed to relate its viewers. Famous directors like Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, and Paul Feig have created many comedy movies most people should be familiar with. They hire actors viewers are familiar with so people watching can get a comfortable feeling that they are familiar with the actor.

Normally the humor comes from misunderstandings, funny out of the ordinary situations, and exaggerations of events in a scene. Character types are always the typical unorganized, sage loser, and eccentric funny type of character. Whenever there is conflict it usually revolves around a real life situation that can happen but it will always be over dramatized to be made funny in social situations or personal dilemmas, but whenever the conflict is solved there is a sense of warm light-hearted and positive humor. The audience is always left with a sense of joy at the end of the movie.

Comedies are always shot with bright colors and lighting to increase the comedic feeling with funny punchlines, fast paced editing, and sound effects. Exaggerated reactions and sound effects add onto the spontaneous feel of a comedy. When trailers are shot they usually only add the funny parts of the movie that are highlighted to be capturing for viewers. Normally covers for comedy movies are bright and colorful while capturing its playful and light-hearted tone. Comedies are typically targeted for families, young adults, or even older audiences. There is no specific age for comedies they normally want to just connect to viewers on a personal level so they can get a good laugh but be drawn in by the movie being relatable.

A good example of a comedy movie that captures the comedic effect would be the movie Bridesmaids. The movie is a super funny popular movie that many viewers may find relatable. The movie is based off an early mid twenty year olds life Annie (Kristen Wiig) who seems to be a mess, but her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) is getting married. Annie obviously takes the roll as her maid of honor but everything goes wrong. Annie is super insecure about Lillians close friend Helen who is also a bridesmaid. There are super funny scenes targeted for adults as well as young adults. Each character in the movie embodies a comedic character from the put together girl to the stressed out mess Annie is. There are quick cuts, reaction shots, and even awkward silent moments that build the comedic feeling when watching. As well for good comedic timing.

Representation

In the movie Top Gun there are many representation patterns. Two major characters in the newest film are Pete Mitchell "Maverick" and Bradley Bradshaw "rooster". There have been two Top Gun movies but the one i'm talking about is Top Gun Maverick. In the movie there is a lot of emotional appeal because maverick is grown up now and is no longer in the Air force with his partner "Goose" who has passed away but his son rooster has now joined the Air force. There are many flashbacks and emotional moments for maverick as he starts his journey again but with a younger group of kids. The original Top gun soundtrack was added into the movie during multiple parts every time there was an emotional scene.

In the new top gun the way they presented Rooster is a representation of construction because they put his mustache on him the same way in the original movie Goose had his. They wanted to make an emotional connection and give him a good way to connect to his dad. The audio and music also creates construction because whenever the top gun theme song comes on it's normally an important scene or they wanted to add that so original viewers have a feel of reminiscing. Having air force costumes and making scenes of them working out also adds the extra affect.

Selection to the right audience who watched the first movie will understand the emotional appeal it has on people to watch the second one. being characters grown up and their kids is such a crazy but nostalgic feel to it. The stereotype of the "tough guy" characteristic is shown a lot through out the movies but there will always be a sense of emotion and softness between the guys and different characters throughout the movie. when Maverick ends up with penny you can finally see mavericks soft side and that he is more soft than what people think.

Blog posting- sound

During the sound project I learned that when sounds are in movies like rain or texting the sounds come from foley where people use objects to create sounds. For my project the directions stated that we had to make 4 of our own foley sounds then use links to create a scene with no video other than sound. During my brainstorming my partner and I thought of doing a scene with a car crash and we picked out some test sounds and watched the videos to figure out what we could use for our foley sounds. The outline helped us set how to put the sounds in order in the video and which sounds we wanted to use. For the editing resources we used adobe premiere. I think next time we should pick a better plot then a car crash scene but I think we did a good job with picking out ways to utilize foley sounds.

Owf blog

In the directions of the One Word Film project it says you were given a partner to work with and then were given a word and we had to create a 1 to 1:30 minute video without any speaking or contexts about our word other than facial expressions, movement, and the shots of our video. Once we were finished with shooting our video we had to go and edit our own versions of our video then submit.

  • To complete my project I started planning out what scene ideas I had for whatever my word was and how I could describe the word into expressions or different shots. The storyboard helped me a lot figuring out what ideas I wanted to use and editing them out if I didn’t like them, it helped me feel more organized. For my editing I used iMovie because in my opinion it was familiar to me and it had everything I needed to edit within the app.

What was done well in my project was making sure my facial expressions and props were able to help me utilize being able to recognize what my word was without having to speak. But something I think I could do better next time is making my scenes long enough where I did not have to go back once we were done editing to add more.

For my quiz I did in class on shots and angles we had to take 15 pictures of every shot or angle and create a story with inanimate objects while trying to make sure the shots and angles give a good idea of the story. My partner and I got the idea from just looking around in our bags to see what we have then trying to create a real life sceniero of what could actually happen while making a friend. In our project we made it about a Hydroflask, Stanley, and mascara becoming friends forming a trio. The Stanley was the first one to go up to mascara to say hi to her since mascara was glancing over at the hydroflask and Stanley having a good time. I think in our project we made a good storyline but I think next time what I can do better is coming up with an idea faster because in class it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to do and how we could come up with angles and shots.
